Feminism - The rise of women is not about the fall of men.

Image
For centuries, we have created society-approved job descriptions for men and women. If either does something different from their society-approved roles, it is always seen as unconventional.  We will never achieve economic progress if women are not included in critical economic activities in our country, particularly in less developed countries. When I was in high school, one of my best friends, wanted to join the Indian armed services, but our teacher advised her that the environment in the armed forces was not suited for a girl, so she was forced to pursue biology instead. Imagine having a desire and having it stolen away from you solely on the basis of your gender, solely on the basis of who you are rather than what you are capable of. The education system had failed her that day, and society had failed her. Female literacy rates have always been lower than the male literacy rates in India. Female labour participation rates have also steadily declined. Women continu...

"Yeh to Shuru hote hi khatam hogya bhai"- Is it really the end of Cryptocurrencies?

Image
The concept of cryptocurrency or Internet Money is tough to recognize and accept, but tranquil to use. It is contemplated hard, mostly because it is completely different from the conventional currencies that people are using for ages. The most stirring part of the usage of the new form of internet money is that there is no mainstream or central authority like Central or Reserve Banks that governs and checks the flow of these currencies. It is completely decentralized. Over the years, bitcoin, as a cryptocurrency has been unhinged leading to investors hauling away from investing in the same. As India is in the technical era, techno-Indians speak, capitalize , and own Bitcoin. One of the most prevalent terms used by the world is “Cryptocurrency”. As E-Commerce is becoming the most essential part, internet sales are thriving with more Techno-Indian customers. Bitcoin came into being in later 2009 as a medium of online transactions. The gap between buyer and seller was spanned by the...

Rise and Fall of the Underworld.

Image
The so called financial capital of India “Mumbai” which is famous for Bollywood, once upon a time was also famous for the underworld. The underworld syndicate started by powerful dons karim Lala and Haji Mastan was taken to newer heights of crime by Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan, the impact of underworld was such that at that time Mumbai police received atleast 30 extortion related complains daily. The city had witnessed the tales of their friendship, rivalry and the blood that they spilled on the streets. However, the underworld, which once gave sleepless nights to the police, businessmen and builders, appears to be gradually dying. In 2016, the Mumbai Police registered five cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), of which only two were related to the underworld. DNA takes a look at what led to the fall of Mumbai's underworld. In 2016, 41 persons were arrested by the Mumbai Police in MCOCA-related cases, of which four had allegiance with Dawood Ibrahim...

Tesla and its flamboyance.

Image
Tesla’s recent breakout market performance is proving some of its  skeptics  wrong. By mid-January, Tesla’s market capitalization had reached $107 billion, and it surged past the giant German automaker Volkswagen to become the world’s second most valuable auto company behind Toyota. Tesla’s valuation now  exceeds that of Ford and GM combined. The Wall Street doubters may be in shock, but I’m not. Full disclosure, I own two Teslas and I own stock in the company. But it’s my experience as a three-time software company CEO that makes it increasingly clear to me that the company’s innovative business model represents an existential threat to the auto industry as a whole. How so?“Software is eating the world,” Marc Andreessen, co-founder and general partner of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, wrote in a memorable 2011 essay. And software is a big part of Tesla’s advantage. In my view, the traditional automakers are ill prepared to compete in today’s software-cen...

'Virtual' Communication During Social Distancing.

Image
Social distancing due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the threat of COVID-19 has meant online communication is more popular than ever, with even casual parenting groups discovering the previous enterprise video conferencing tool Zoom. But how will that affect communications? Have you ever met someone who is stiff in person but great on camera or the other way around? Neuroscientists study brain and behavior and in  a recent study  found that a person's gaze is altered during tele-communication if they think that the person on the other end of the conversation can see them. People are very sensitive to the gaze direction of others and even two-day-old infants prefer faces where the eyes are looking directly back at them. The phenomenon known as "gaze cueing," a powerful signal for orienting attention, is a mechanism that likely plays a role in the developmentally and socially important wonder of "shared" or "joint" attention where a number of people atten...

The James Bond Of India.

Image
There are many unsung heroes of India that do not get enough credit for their unmatched contribution, extreme dedication, and undeterred determination towards their country. They hustle in the silence, win so many inside battles to keep our country safe from its enemies. One such Indian hero, who is also popularly known as the “ James Bond of India ” is  Ajit Doval . Ajit Doval , who is the fifth and the current National Security Advisor (NSA) to the Prime Minister of India, is a retired Indian Police Services (IPS) officer of the Kerala cadre. He is a former Indian intelligence and law enforcement officer. He is also the youngest police office of India to be awarded the  Kirti Chakra  Meritorious Service -a gallantry award for military personnel. Born in Uttarakhand in 1945, Doval began his police career in 1968 as an IPS officer. During his period of service, he was actively involved in the counter-insurgency operations in Mizoram and Punjab. Though most of us ha...

The Class Of 1983.

Image
Near the end of his training period, every police recruit is consumed by a single concern: his first posting. Each policeman has his own ideas and expectations. Some want to serve in or around their hometowns to be near their families. Some hope to get posted in conflict zones like Naxalite areas, where risk is paralleled only by accolades. And yet, there are others who want ‘cream’ postings where money and influence can be accumulated in little time and in large quantities. In the late 1980s, there was only one destination of choice for ambitious, young policemen: Mumbai. The underworld in Mumbai at the time was flourishing with extortion rackets. Gangsters like Karim Lala, Babu Reshim and Rajan Nair, also known as Bada Rajan, were waging war against each other to establish their supremacy over the city. The Pathan gangs and Dawood Ibrahim were also locked in a violent battle. Blood spilled freely on the Mumbai streets. Contract killings were the order of the day. The citizens w...
